Right so it been about 2 weeks since I posted, sorry. So I went to visit a friend the other weekend in Stuttgart. Simon was one of several friends I made backpacking in Australia last year. Over New Years, there were several of us in a hostel that got on really well. I have been able to catch up with all of them (1 here in London, 2 in Prague and Simon in Stuttgart) that are outside of Australia.
Simon and his family were kind enough to let me crash for the weekend. We had a good catchup and traded stories and pictures. When I met him he was about or just over midway through a round the world trip. So he filled me in on his time in South America, which has reinvigorated my interest for a prolonged trip there... and maybe even a 6 month or year long RTW trip... definitely need 2 or 3 months in Africa and 4 or so in South America... but that's another day altogether.
I didn't really see much of Stuttgart as they technically live in Sindelfingen about 15km outside of Stuttgart. Its a nice little town (about 65,000 people) with an old town that is very iconic German with architecture and all. We just kind of bummed around during the day and went out big Friday night in Stuttgart. As far as night life, its a fun place. Given the nearby US military bases, it was easy to spot the occasional GI out too. Oh yea, Sindelfingen's main industry is automobile (DAG - Daimler = Mercedes and SMART). Which is very apparent since the Daimler facilities are about as big as the whole town. Seriously.
But thats about it. Spent a few weeks up in Glasgow again (and go back tomorrow). Where it is still cold (it snowed again last week...), the whiskey is still good and the girls wear about the same amount of clothes out as they would on the Myrtle Beach strip... Seriously. But as I don't get to spend much time out, I wouldn't really know. They keep me locked in my cell on my laptop most of the time.
So tonight I have to pack, watch UNC vs that stubbornly snooty fake gothic university on the internet (just the play by play stats, can't get this game) and get ready for another week out of town with too much work to do. Fun times.
