Smurfestival

So this weekend was probably one of the funnier times lately. One of my flatmates had a few friends in town. Apparently whenever they get together they tend to go out to the pub in fancy dress. Yes, apparently its fun to get dressed up as something ridiculous and then go out to a normal pub. I know, none of you are surprised that I jumped right in and joined them.

Well after a few different ideas were kicked around, smurfs was decided on. Yes smurfs. Surprisingly enough, people here haven't really seen the cartoon, they just know the idea. Most people didn't even know that there were different smurfs. They just knew Smurfette, Papa Smurf and then the generic smurf. Such a deprived childhood they must have had. Not to even go into the surprise when I tried to describe the Snorks to them...

Anyway, we eventually made some hats (little felt and a bit of thread and voila!), got some long sleeve shockingly blue shirts and loads of blue face paint... But I had to do a little something extra, see although I have trimmed my beard a good bit, its still around. Therefore I was Papa Smurf. Unfortunately that meant I had to find red (not white) trousers (not pants, that means underwear here... trust me the mistake can be embarassing) and that was way harder than you could imagine. I finally had to settle on some red ski ones, which definitely got warm in the crowded pub and on the dance floor. After we kitted up it was off to the pub. Side note - we stole our office mascot (a little monkey) and dressed him up too. Don't ask why, it just was funny...

In case you missed some of my shocking beard photos, here are a few. But don't worry it is much more respectable now... Oh yea - if you drop in, feel free to send me a note, it'd be nice to know outside of some of my family who actually reads this mess I write. I am off to Stuttgart this weekend so I should have some more to write next week.
Oh yea, a bomb went off in Cairo this week... not too far from where I stayed. Guess that is why all the police have assualt/automatic rifles. Glad I already went to Egypt!!
