American Boy

Yea, whenever I hear that song when I am in London I can't help but smile. If you listen closely to the lyrics its good. Anyway, I digress. But where to start... So I left the US late on Saturday the 13th (Happy Birthday to my nephew Walker - ya'll should still dress him up like an ewok, and the rest of ya'll could be Han Solo, Princess Leia and Jax could be Anakin (eWalk er... picture it... oh yea)), landed early Sunday morning and started work on Monday. They did have a taxi at the airport waiting (and he was holding a little name board - NICE, even if it was written with a Vis a Vis marker...) and booked me into a decent hotel (not flash but ok) for the next two weeks.

So, a short reflection - this time last year I was chilling in Sydney waiting for my first day. It was a little brisk but the anticipation of the coming summer was energizing. A year later and I am here in London, where its already getting chilly, the blistering sun and beautiful beaches of Australia just a shadow of a memory. But I find myself in basically the same place, doing the same things. Work is different but similar (more so to the US thankfully) and just like the beginning in Sydney, I am spending inordinate amounts of time dealing with banks (now possible my least favorite things, even compared to airlines), mobile phones and looking at flats. There is a whole new world of transportation to learn and place to explore.

The anticipation of vacations in Europe is awesome. One of my colleagues has just taken off to go to Munich for the opening weekend of Oktoberfest, I was hoping to go to the closing weekend but don't think I'll be able to. Good thing there is always next year. My real question is what to do for the holidays this year, there are just so many places to see and I can't decide. I do have a few friends scattered in Europe that I will hopefully get to see, mainly in Germany so that might be the first road trip...

No to do list this time, nothing planned. Just going to wing it, seems that that is always the most interesting way to do things. If anyone comes this way, drop me a line. Otherwise stay tuned for blog updates and happenings. But remember don't get jealous, you should already be.
