After a long tiring time in Stamford, I boarded my flight back home. However there was one problem, you see I have been a little sick over the last few months. Not sure really what it is, but the doctors I have seen just said it was a sinus infection... that apparently never goes away. Unfortunately on the flight home (via Charles de Gaulle in Paris - HORRIBLE idea by the way, Air France is now up there with Eygpt Air and Iceland Express as my least favorite airlines), I had some extreme pressure in my head and started to, well, black out. But no worries, I made it home just fine.
Not only did I make it home but Orlaith and her mom were already there as they had come over to see Switzerland. They hung around for a few days and eventually they had to go home. I had a semi normal (not really sure what normal is some days) time in the office (not really sure what my office looks like) but spent most of my time studying.
One week in the office is all I seem to be allowed, as it was off to the next assignment soon. I was headed down to Sardinia, Portoscuso to be exact. We had two weeks there with a small team. Sardinia has been hit hard by the financial crisis, it has something like 20% unemployment and in the off season (which is when we went), the area is a bit of a ghost town. The area has several big industrial facilities that provide most of the jobs that remain.
Over the weekend we went to the nearby smaller island of San Pietro, specifically Carloforte, via ferry. Some of the guys at the facility make the trip each day (about 1 hr), could be a worse comute. It is a tourist hot spot in the high season, with hgue yachts moored and nice vacation homes. We spent the time just wandering around, had a few gelatos and pizzas. One of the guys from the facility actually took us on a tour of the island and then to one of the beaches. It was a beautiful area but I was still trying to use most of my free time to study... Got to finally get this accounting (CMA) certification done. At the end of the audit it was back to the real world... a short flight to Rome, a delay (of course) and a flight home, for a few days...
