But before I left on the trip I managed to accomplish one thing I really wanted to do. I made a Swiss watch. A local company (Cimier) runs seminars called Watch Academies. You assemble a watch with help from the master watchmaker and some of the assistants. the groups are small, there were only 12 people (plus 2 press). We each had a wok bench and actually assembled way more of the watch than I thought we did.
Since it was a mechanical watch, we had to put the wheels and gears in place and screw it all together. We did get to ersonalize it by choosing the case, bracelet, dial and hands. We made a specific watch and had to choose form the colors in that line (leather bands, stainless/gold/black cases...). They also engraved the back of the watch with any 40 characters we wanted. The best is that the whole thing cost just less than half of the actual price of just the watch. So not only did you get a great experience but you got it for a better price!
The CEO and Watchmaker were a wealth of information and we actually learned a lot about the history of watches in Switzerland and in general. t was an experience well worth the cost and I would even do it again! Well I should stop procrastinating and pack - I leave in 11 hours!
Happy Birthday Tita and Mom!
