Day 162 - 165 (August 23 - 26) - Guatape, Colombia

Day 162 - 165 (August 23 - 26) - Guatape, Colombia
So today I bade farewell to a few friends who were ending their trips. Whilst I decided to leave the Blacksheep Hostel and take the Metro (which is very nice, fast and cheap) to the bus terminal and go out to Guatape. Guatape s about 1.5 / 2 hrs outside of Medellin and is in a lake district. It is a sleepy village that only really comes to life on the weekends when the locals go there to party on the water.

I was going to go chill out for a few days at a new hostel. Actually the hostel was still being started. I ended up helping the two guys who were running it by painting, moving things around and whatnot. They gave me practically free accommodation so it was cool. Guatape is a really pretty little town.

You can go fishing, kayaking, go hiking and all sorts of stuff. Just
down the road is the Piedra de Penol. Its a massive rock that towers over the area and provides the best scenic views... But I didn't do any of that. I did run into two people from the hostel who were day tripping out there and we did short boat ride.

I took a trip up to Penol but liked Guatape better. Its a pretty pueblo with a lot of brightly painted houses and very cheerful feel about it. Its worth a visit, at least a day trip just to get out of Medellin.
