Day 79 - 82 (June 1 - 4) Schools out forever!

Day 79 - 82 (June 1 - 4) Schools out forever!
On Tuesday (1/6) I went to the opera at Teatro Colon with a few people form the hostel. I got tickets for La Boheme but could only get them for the Paraiso de Pie... whcih meant we were standing the whole time. But for $30AR (about $7.5USD) it doesn't get much better. This was also the first opera put on since the Teatro was reopened (1 week earlier). It had been closed since October 2006 for renovations. I only got one decent picture in the Teatro so here it is so you get an idea.

The Teatro was opened in 1908 after being under construction for 20 years. It has about 2,500 seatts and space for another 1,000 standing (me). It is regarded as one of the top five opera houses for acoustics. Whch is rather important in opera.

The production of La Boheme we saw was fantastic. The stage and sets were absolutely wonderful and the performance itself as breathtaking. The fourth act was especially spectaular and moving (as it should be as the climax of the damn thing). The Teatro itself is cool. It has seven galleries and then the floor seats (which go up to $715ARS). As you might expect much of it is guilded and painted with dramatic flourishes. Definitely something you should do if you ever go to BA.

The rest of the week was just the same old go to Spanish classes and chill out. Thursday we went out to another boliche with people at school. Several of us are leaving this week so it was a good night! We were going to a big night club that has some weird elecktrocabaret show... but I never made it. It was too big a night and I never actually made it to the club....

I have starting planning a bit of the trip now, better late than never. And on Friday am going on an overnight bus to Puerto Iguazu up north to see the waterfalls there, stay one night then come back to BA, stay ne night then go to Mendoza - wine country!! After that I will exit Argentina as fast as I feel like (might go over to Santiago Chile for a few days, might not) to get to Bolivia!!
