Day 32 - 33 - the road to Zanzibar

Day 32 (Acacia day 29) - Iringa
Up and out early as we had another fairly long drive day ahead of us. After a bit we hit the border into Tanzania… yet another place where it does not pay to be American as my tourist visa ost $100 when everyone else only cost $50… since Washington increased its visa costs and there is no agreement with Tanzania for their tourists to come t the US, they have responded to our increasing US visa costs by increasing American tourist visas into Tanzania… DAMN IT!!
We drove awhile longer and stopped at a place called the Farmhouse. It is an actually working farm and the first time we actually were cold?!? It is at a much higher elevation and, like most of our trip, was wet. They cooked an awesome meal for us and we had a short but very agreeable time.

Day 33 (Acacia day 30) – Dar El Salaam
Up and out early (yes there is a theme here…) as we continued our drive across Tanzania to get to Dar. We drove through Mikumi National Park but really didn’t see too much. We weren’t allowed to stop as we were in transit, so we did a few quick drive bys… We did see giraffes, elephants, a few buffalo and what we thought might be a lion in the shade but couldn’t really tell…This was probably our longest day and was fairly uneventful. That is until we got close to Dar. The traffic in Dar was horrible. It took ages to get across the city once we were there and then we had to queue to take the ferry out to the area where the campsite was. We finally made it to the beach front campsite just before sunset (and it was called Sunrise campsite at Kipepeo Beach). A quick dip in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and we setup camp. All in all an uneventful day but at least we are in striking distance of ZANZIBAR!!
