The one about work

The one about work.

Yup so I’ve said I wouldn’t write about work but I have to break my own rules sometime. This is probably the most important entry since I found I was going to Australia. But before I get to it on quick story (at least I think it’s amusing)…

I am in Newcastle, about 2.5/3 hours north of Sydney. One of my coworkers and I took the train up here for the client. It’s a pretty ride, through low mountains (or tall hills…) over rivers and stuff, very scenic. So we got to the hotel (it is actually really nice, few restaurants inside and loads of pokey machines, but I don’t play. Seriously, I prefer blackjack) and checked in. I got room 123, which I of course said “Wow that’s the same combination as my luggage.” To which she gave me a blank, confused look that really gave off the expression that I was a complete idiot… Well some people have no sense of humor or have seen “Spaceballs”.

Ok, so back to the BIG news. No I’m not hurt, I’m not arrested, not married (although that would be funny), no kids (I’m still not sure how they get out in their mommies’ bellies anyway? I’m an angel…), I am however most likely leaving Australia. Our particular group at work has been “reorganized”. Most of the people are okay and will be shifted to other areas (including me, for the time being). Unfortunately that does not hold true for everyone. Just a note to anybody in HR, or with employees – check the birthdays of people before you have to let them go. That’s really not a good way to punctuate someone’s birthday. But as unprofessional as that is, I would only be more so by complaining about it further in this medium. I’ll save it for my exit meeting; it’ll give me something to look forward too.

So yea, exit meetings. My Secondment is being terminated or will most likely end early; I guess that is the best way to classify it. Timing and terms are still to be worked out, so we’ll see. Sure am glad I moved to a new apartment… it does have great views of the city, promise I’ll take a few pictures before I leave. There are a few options to think of, maybe I can move cities with the same job, maybe I go home, and maybe I do something yet to be determined… Who knows? Surprisingly all the beers, wine and spirits didn’t help me figure it out last weekend but it sure was fun. Keep checking, I’ll let you know, when I know.
