So I got back from Calle Pescado early this morning... and had decided that I was going to go south further into the mountains to see a different town. I was headed to Popayan this afternoon. Good thing I don't need much sleep, between the late night and crazy buses, I wasn' t going to get much more.
Popayan is also known as the "White City". The old district is still colonial style and everything is painted white... its a pretty little city (~200k ppl), well the old part is the rest kind of sucks. It is also the jumping off point for several treks in southern Colombia and trips to San Agustin, but I did want to do all of those and test myself to hard yet.
I just took it easy and looked around a bit. Like always plenty of old churches but since everything is white and signage appears to be restricted, once it was dark everything looks the same and I got turned around a bit...
The next day I went with a couple of others out to a the nearby village of Silvia. Tuesday is there market day so all of the campesinos and locals come into town and sell their goods and buy what they needed for the week. There was all kinds of food, produce, clothes, animals, you name it. The natives (Guapis I think) all wear similar clothes and do the normal catch up and gossip. It was really interesting and cool.
The following morning I caught a bus back to Cali to hang out en route to Medellin. Its a fairly long way so I wanted to break it up a bit.
