Day 14 / 15

Day 14 (Acacia day 11) – Windhoek
We exited Etosha and had a small attempt to find some game… to no avail. So we were on our way to Windhoek – the capital of Namibia. It’s a long drive day so plenty of napping, cards and music. We got into our hostel – no camping tonight and eventually headed out to Joe’s Beerhouse for dinner. This is a popular place that is known for serving good game!! I had the Bushman’s Sosatie, which was a kebab with crocodile, ostrich, zebra, Oryx and chicken!! Awesome. Then it was back to the hostel for a few good bye beers for our people departing.

Day 15 (Acacia day 12) – Ghanzi
Up and out from Windhoek for a really long drive day (6+ hours) including crossing into Botswana. Botswana has its own currency (pula made up of 100 thebe) and has probably the most stable currency around. At least in Nambia you could spend SA rand (they were 1 to 1) but here we will have to go change money soon. Botswana also has a really large population of donkeys… seriously. As the story goes, when there was a really bad outbreak of foot and mouth disease, the government took most of the cattle and slaughtered them. Then they gave the people a donkey to replace it… fair trade? So now there are donkeys all over the place; on the road, on the side of the road and basically on any green space around.

In Ghanzi we stayed at the Ghanzi Trail Blazers, which has several bushman huts (you could upgrade to) or just pitch our tents again. Shortly after we got our tents up, the sky opened up and we got a deluge. We cooked under the tarp and made the best of it. The rain was crazy and came again later in the night – always hard to sleep in a tent with a thunderstorm out.
