he calls it sport; when a tiger wants to murder him he calls it ferocity - George Bernard Shaw
Or he can call the Tarheels... given that they slew Clemson with a ferocity only known to a team that has fallen from number 1 in the land, after two embarassing loses. This makes it the 54th game in a row at UNC, that Carolina has beaten Clemson. The only streak that survived the turbulence of the Guthridge/Doherty years. The longest road losing streak in college basketball history... Made a little sweeter by the fact that both teams were in the top 10.
On a similar note, a special guest from the summer pick up games in Chapel Hill made headlines as, Barak O'baller Obama officially assumed the office of POTUS. Amazing the power in a mear 40 or so words.
But I do have an issue with the press coverage of Obama. But firstly lets be clear, I have no issue with Obama or anything and think he will be a good president. He needs to be, the expectations are pretty high. This next paragraph is intended only to make you think. But seriously, have we not progressed far enough to get away from the miscegenistic. Does the emphasis on Obama being the first black president diminish his non African heritage? Or are we socially turning the corner and pushing past the negative aspect of terms such as mulato, quadroon and mestizo? At least it is in a good manner and a positive take on things. But is it really just the other side of the coin. Will it continue to propogate negative issues by over emphasizing why its good. Are people going to finally start just accepting others as Americans?
No, not really. Because people inherently look for anything that separate them. We automatically speak of people using looks, dress, culture, location, age, bascially anything to draw distinctions. Thats not a bad thing, but it is when people start ranking and stereotyping others based on it. We should celebrate them. Come on who doesn't like Tiger Woods, Halle Berry, Jessica Alba and most of the rest of the world?
Anyway, that was my unorganised, disembodied rant without real reason or purpose. Hope the next four years are better than the last eight, they couldn't be too much worse.
On to a more personal update - I have spent most of this month across England - 2 wks in Hull (which at one time recently was voted worst city in the UK - "it has a smell of death about it"...), NE England and then a week in Bristol - western England. And more importantly next week I am going on holiday. Yes. Again. Already. It feels like I need one so I am taking one. ITS OFF TO PRAGUE!!! Into the heart of Bohemia I go. Land of culture, history, cheap beer and beautiful women! oh yea - the beard is coming along nicely...
